BMW 2005 X3 - BLITZSAFE - Cannot Find 3 and 6 Pin Connectors

I am trying to install the Blitzsafe for use with a MyFi in a BMW X3 model year 2005. On my 325iT the cables were easy to find in the left rear cargo area. But the X3 mounts the CD changer in the center consol. I took out the plastic liner and see the mounting bracket for the CD changer but the 3 and 6 pin connectors are nowhere to be found.

I also looked in the cargo area where the Sirus wiring is and do not see them there.

Has anyone located where the Blitzsafe can be connected on an X3?

Thanks.

Call your BMW dealer and ask for the service dept. Ask where the factory CD CHnager would normally go - that's where the cables are located. BMW takes care to wrap unused cables carefully, so you may have to remove some of the electrical tape that holds the electrical harness wiring together to reveal them.

Thanks, I'll do that. But from the manual that comes with the vehicle, it shows the CD changing in the center consol. I can see many wires, some wrapped but inside the wrapping the 3 and 6 pin plugs are not there.

I talked to the service manager at my dealer today and he said they have often found the wires buried under the carpert under the consol. He told me to come by and one of the techs would pull them out. For Free Laughing

was going to post on the other XM FanSite, as i had before, however,
Ziggy has posted pics of the X3 3 and 6 pin wires in the center console from one of his posts in regards to the XM Direct install in BMW's.

The XM Direct is also compatible with the 2004 X-3 WITHOUT navigation.

It was verified at a BMW dealer. The 3 and 6 pin required wires are located under the center console. After removing the console the attached pics show the wires.

I know the pix may be diffcult to comprehend just looking at them below, but this is what you will find once the center console covering is removed. Then the pix should be self-explanatory.

Happy XM'ing!

FOUND THEM !!

Did not have time to go to the dealer so I took one more look and found them. They were wrapped in felt WAY in the back of the center console right under the ashtray. I really had to did them out of there!

Thanks for all the help. This site is great. I bought two Blitzsafes from Ziggy. MyRadioStore offers great service and support. Exclamation

hey, great news, this is why finding the cd changer cabling is always the worst in BMW's. they wrap unused cables in black felt tape to protect them for future use. they're always within reach, you just have to find them.

try it on a Z4, when you can't just reach through the pass-through hole in the rear of the trunk and grap the 3pin power wire. you then have to take the inside of the Z4 interior to get at them. not a fun process.

looking from the trunk back into the car at the interior dash.

but, finish product looks nice, and ease of use for functionality while driving is a breeze.

hey R-U-Q-R-U, or Ziggy ... can you give me some instructions on how to get to the cables?

I'm helping a friend install an XM Direct for a 2005 X3, but I'm trying to find out the best way to get to the cables.

Does the entire center console need to come out, and if so, how? Or does just the inner lining of the console need to come out?

oh and will the XM Direct/Blitzsafe adapter work for the 05 X3 as well (dunno if there were any changes from 04 to 05)

thanks for any help

You have to pull the console up in the front and rear. I didn't actually remove mine completely, but it has to come up on all four sides. The 3 and 6 pin connectors are in the right rear corner, and are wrapped in felt. They are definitely well hidden, but you can find them if you look carefully. The rest is plug 'n' play.

I did not remove any part of the console other than the plastic pull-out tray in the center. If you open the console door you see the big plastic tray. With a little force you can pull it out to expose the CD changer mounting bracket. I found the cables under the bracket in the back under the ashtray.
