DIRECTV IS TAKING AWAY OUR METAL!!!

As you know, DirecTV will be replacing its current music provider (Music Choice) with programming from XM Satellite Radio. I congratulate the move, and beleive its a good thing for both companies, BUT!!!!!!!!!

One thing the executives at DirecTV screwed up on royally on is their beleif that their current metal channel 816 METAL (uncensored) can be replaced by XM's SQUIZZ. Are you fuckin' kidding me?!?!?!? Squizz is a fine channel, but it certainly is NOT the current Metal (uncensored) channel offered on DirecTV by Music Choice.

The only replacement for Music Choices METAL (uncensored) channel is XM's Liquid Metal. Give us metalheads some respect here, and get this channel on DirecTV!

DirecTV, you will be effectively KILLING your metal listening audience as of November 15, 2005 by not offering XMLM!

I ask that any of you wanting to hear metal on DirecTV write in and tell the people at the top of DirecTV who obviously DO NOT understand the genre what you think:

Done.

Remember people, a profranity laced tirade is most likely going to end up in the trash folder and not in the bigwigs' inbox.. so try to keep it somewhat civil so our message really gets through to them.

I e-mailed them yesterday:
As a customer for almost 10 years (3 years on my own, the rest at my father's house - who also by the way still has DirecTV on his HDTV, even though you guys are severely lacking in HD quality and quantity), I applaud many of the decisions and programming changes you've made over the years, including the latest one to add XM Satellite Radio channels to the lineup (although, I would've loved to still have a choice of Music Choice channels, but understand that that's expensive both service and bandwidth-wise). But I cannot and will not agree with the decision to exclude Liquid Metal (Online Only Channel 42) from the lineup.

Heavy Metal is the fastest growing genre in terms of groups and albums coming out, and the amount of loyal fans coming on board. Don't make the mistake XM did when they took this channel off the satellites. SquiZZ is not a valid replacement for channel 816, Metal (uncensored)!

Form letter received early this morning! Shows SOME promise:

Dear Mr. *******,

Thanks for writing. Please be informed that DIRECTV has ended it's contract with Music Choice, but will continue to air their programming until XM Satellite Radio starts. We have reached an agreement with XM Satellite Radio that will allow us to provide DIRECTV customers with up to 72 channels of XM's music, children’s and talk programming. The new XM service will begin on November 15, 2005 in the 800 channels currently used by Music Choice.

We understand that not everyone will like each program. However, our ongoing research tells us that most customers agree with us, and like being able to choose from so many viewing options.

Full details of the XM channel lineup are still being determined , so please stay tuned to DIRECTV.com for the latest information about this exciting new programming.

Sincerely,

Kathreen

That sounds promising....

Please write in and explain to the "suits" that their current METAL (uncensored) channel CANNOT be replaced by SquiZZ! Only XMLM can fill those shoes!

Also, if any of you are members of other DirecTV related forums, please post a link to thsi thread, or at least copy the content over to the other message boards.

I got my response today as well. I was surpised it wasn't a totally "canned" response.. but it almost seems like they're trying to place the blame on XM now:

Thanks for writing. We have reached an agreement with XM Satellite Radio that will allow us to provide DIRECTV customers with up to 72 channels of XM's music, children’s and talk programming. I'm sorry to hear that you are unhappy that Liquid Metal channel was excluded from the lineup. Our goal is to provide a wide variety of channels and programming content. Unfortunately, we can't predict or control the programming selection a particular channel chooses to air. While we continually work with our programming partners to improve your television entertainment experience, it helps us all if you also forward your feedback to the network. You can reach XM satellite Radio at:

XM Satellite Radio
202/380-XXXX
Jade Ekstedt,
DIRECTV, Inc., 310/964-XXXX
- [note: phone numbers removed by me]

We understand that not everyone will like every program aired on DIRECTV, and we take customer feedback very seriously. However, our ongoing research tells us that most customers agree with us, and like being able to choose from so many options.

Thanks again for your interest in DIRECTV and stay tuned to DIRECTV.com for the latest news and information about our services.

Sincerely,

Francis

Sounds to me like they don't care, since they will be solely relying on XM to provide the content, regardless of what that content will be (or how it will differ, for the better or worse, in this case).

Keep writing those letters.

I agree..it doesn't bode well that DTV relinquish content control to a third party so willingly. XM is truly sucking now, in my book.

I can honestly understand having no metal stations if there were none in the first place. I'm used to metal being in the underground. But to have a station on XM, and then take it away, and to have a station on DirecTV, and not provide a replacement is just a bunch of crap. Someone's got a bug up his ass about metal.

Does anyone know the duration of this XM / DirecTV partnership? How long will this last?

I was contemplating purchasing a XM ready receiver for the home but am backing off the idea since I have DirecTV. I guess I could go to SkiFi if the relationship goes south.

Hey

I have been a metal fan since I can remmebrt, here in Chicagoland, they have taken away three metal stations in the last five years. Two in Chicago and one in Joliet. The last one was last month when the only decent metal station was turned into an oldies station. They have taken away my Liquid Metal. I signed up for XM a month before LM was off the air.

I dont have a fast enough computer to be able to listen online like the suits all want us to do.

I have been a subscriber to Directv for at least ten years if not longer, It was always a great feeling to be able to listen to what I wanted to hear at least in one place.

Now I wont be able to do that because of these suits and their horrible music taste.

I ask you all what is this world coming to when all you can hear is pop rock shit on squizz and thats as heavy as it comes.

I emailed directv today and complained this is starting to really distrurb me, I can only listen to the music I want on cd's now, are the suits just trying to get me to buy more cd's,

What is this they arent making any money off of metal so they dont want to play it, instead they want to force us to go and buy the cd's to be able to hear what we want to listen to

I missed it in the first 5 minutes, I hadn't heard anything about the format change, but I almost cried when i woke up and flipped to 816 yesterday morning. and of course i got a "canned" response from my inquiry to DTV..

Thanks for your suggestion! I'm sorry for any inconvenience this situation has caused. We're always looking for ways to enhance our services, and customer feedback is very important to us. I have forwarded your comments on to DIRECTV Management.

We often make changes to our service based on customer requests, and we conduct customer surveys on a regular basis to get feedback and new ideas.

Thanks again for your suggestion, and stay tuned to DIRECTV.com for the latest news and information about our service.
