I had thought that Pioneer was going to make the first ones. Am I totally off-base? And my impression was that Yamaha had two lines with XM HD. Why did you choose this line?

(I know, a lot of quesitons, especially for someone who doesn't plan to buy one right away)

This is direct from Yamaha's website:

What Is The Difference Between The RX-V Line And The HTR Line?

There are many similarities between these two product lines. The RX-V line and the HTR line are produced in the same Yamaha factory using high quality parts throughout. The RX-V and equivalent HTR models have the same warranty periods, the same manufacturer's suggested retail price, similar features, and similar remote control units.

There is a cosmetic difference found on the front panels of these two lines. The RX-V line maintains the traditional white colored lettering normally found on most Yamaha components, while the HTR line provides a slightly different approach. Yamaha has created a new look by using gold colored lettering in selected areas on the HTR receiver series. However, both the RX-V line and the HTR line feature high quality front panel construction.

The amplifiers in the HTR and RX-V units are identical but rated differently to comply with the accepted measurement standards of their respective channels of distribution. Both ratings are FTC approved and are designed to handle the dynamics of today's audio and video sources. The RX-V line has the power amplifiers rated from 20-20000 Hz. The HTR line has the power amplifiers rated at 1000 Hz. Both lines can reproduce the full frequency response of 20-20000 Hz.

The RX-V line is typically sold through Yamaha authorized audio/video specialty retailers, and is not available for mail order sales, phone sales, or internet sales.

The HTR line is sold through mass merchants, catalog retailers, and department stores. You may also purchase the HTR line through the mail, by phone, or at authorized internet retailers.

All transactions must be done through the authorized Yamaha dealer network. Any purchase made from an unauthorized dealer/retailer voids the Yamaha manufacturer's warranty.[/b]

3 Different Models

Has any one made (found) a comparison of the three models with Neural?

I'm curious about the differences between the 3.

Thanks,
D.

Sound quality for Neural Surround will be the same, the difference is the other features that Yamaha packs into these tuners.

Nothing has been announced abou that. So far only the two.

KEEP IN MIND!!! The neural processing that is included i these two receivers, not only gives you 5.1 on the two XM HD channels, but also improves the sound of the rest of the XM channels, giving you TRUE STEREO.

Someone needs top tell me how good this stuff is, because Pio released the VSX-816 to replace my VSX-815, and the only change is the addition of XM 5.1.

I need to know if its worth the appx $100 I will lose selling my old reciever and buying a new one

Yes.

This info seems to disscuss the OSD display on the unit it's self , I referring to the Artist/Track/ XM Status Displayed on a TV or Monitor not the onboard OSD.

I got that information from the manual which describes the OSD on the Receiver , too.

Look at the diagram on the manual's page. You can't see all that information on the receiver's readout. That's the OSD on a video display.

Thank you, Wireman.

So I have been looking at these for the last couple of weeks on the internet and decided to get the 5950. I ordered it from MyRadioStore.com yesterday and can't wait. I have a question though. This receiver is many levels above the type of speakers I have. I have home theater in a box speakers from Samsung that are 40W and some Pioneer's that are 30W & 50 W. If I hook these up to this receiver will it blow the speakers or worse damage the reciever. I am going to be real careful with it. I plan on going to CC to get some Pioneers' rated at 120W regardless to at least start out. Can anybody help me, I am a novice (obviously).

As long as you don't go crankin' it up to the point that your speakers are sounding distorted or anything like that, you should be fine. One thing to beware of with home-theater-in-a-box setups... sometimes the sub is unusable outside of that original receiver. I had one of those from Panasonic, and the sub and receiver units had to be tied together. All of the speakers connected to the sub, as that's where the actual amp was, but the sub is also what powered the receiver, and without the receiver attached, the sub would not power on. Just a little thing I thought I'd mention since you mentioned your current system is from a HTIAB. Smile
