Delphi "Wearable" for Roady 2 Sneak peak!

Looks like the most portable solution for XM Satellite Radio is on the board! XM411.com got an exclusive peak at the unit. Take a look at the pictures below and see what you think!

Not too many details are available, but the unit is basically a housing for the New Roady 2 which contains a rechargeable battery. There will also be a pair of headphones with a built-in antenna (a personal dream and goal for a long time). The official product launch will be sometine in the fall.

Wow! Very interesting add-on! I will be very interested to see how long the battery lasts, as well as how they implement the antenna-headphones.

The enclosure looks nice, and the back of it will probably keep some of the mentioned "hot spots" from the 3G chipset off the body. My only thought as to a missing feature here would be a way to lock the keypad, so any accidental button presses don't go changing the channel...

Otherwise, looks good!!

There "hot spots" are not hot, just pretty warm. Nothing you cant hold in your hand for any period of time you like.

I can only imagine the battery life will be well in excess of 4 hours. Looks like it will be a LiIon cell, so its light and has a high capacity.

I say YES! But I doubt it will happen. Please prove me wrong XMSIRI.

Looks iPod sized.

However, the jog wheel is covered up. Why would they do that?

The headphones were only shown as a graphic on the presentation monitor, but the more or less looked like your average over-the-head pair.

The weight on this was pretty light. I would say around a pound total with Roady 2, but I didn't have a scale.

This is very interesting! XM is ready to explore the potential of the portable receiver market.

IMPRESSIVE!

A car, home, portable, and walkman unit with a single XM sub.

Side note - with all these applications, it'll be interesting to see how many people have more than one Roady and use the family plan just for the convenience of not having to move the Roady back and forth.

Is it only for Roady2?

Is the portable unit only for Roady 2 or will it work with the current Roady unit

Ziggy,
I had envisioned something like this that would adapt the Roady/ Roady 2 to fit into a SkyFi adapter & Boombox. I'd love to have the features of the Roady in the convenence of the SkyFi.

I would imagine that since the new Roady is a lot thinner than the current one, it's only for the new Roady. Also, the newer chipset in the new Roady has a lot of power savings over the current one.

The new wearable will only work with Roady 2.
