2004 Mustang in Dash 6 CD with SAT Button.

For any one that has had problems finding an adaptor for their 2004 Ford factory head head unit, like I was, I got the FRD03-Aux from PIE to work with my Roady 2 today. IT has a 24 and 16 pin plugs and it fit perfectly and worked immediatly. Nothing else to do. Once its installed all you have to do is hit the CD/Aux button to cycle through the 6 in dash cd player and the the XM.

I very pleased with the sound quality and the install was quick and painless.

Hope this helps anyone out there looking for a solution.

I'm also pleased with how well the PIE adaptors work with Ford HUs, especially after reading about potential incompatabilities.

You'll have to remove the plastic bezel surrounding the stereo/heat/air controls to access the bolts/release tabs to remove the stereo to see if the Auxiliary Input plug is on the back.

Many of the 2005 Ford model vehicles have been found not to have the Aux plug and there's no PIE cables available yet.

I actually don't have the Mustang yet - it's on order; hope to have it by mid-March. I'm just trying to figure out the best, least obtrusive means to get XM in it. PIE TECH - are you with Precision Interface Electronics (PIE)? If so, just a heads up that I follow a lot of Mustang discussion boards and the '05 radios in the Mustang are a hot topic of discussion. Specifically, they come with an "Aux" button, but no one has yet figured out exactly how that button can be used. Is PIE looking into this radio? Would be great if you guys could come up with an interface cable to hook up an XM receiver direct into this radio without having to use FM modulator. And your market for such a cable would be ever-expanding...the Mustang will do nothing but go straight up in sales. Very Happy

If it would help, I can post a messsage on one of the Mustang boards asking someone to try and find a part number on that radio.

I was actualy asking "Mustang1" for the part #

However, yes we (PIE) are aware of the headunit in the 2005 Mustang. This headunit was first introduced in 2004 with the redesign of the F150. We have the equipment and are currently working on "Reverse-Engineering" the "AUX" function on those radios.

Hey PIE TECH,

Do you know if you can use the FRD03-Aux on the 2004 6-Disc Sat HU WITH the Sirius Sat installed? Controlling the Aux input from the CD/Aux control, thus, being able to have Sirius (SAT button) and XM thru the (CD/Aux button).

It would be a harness nightmare behind the headunit though.

Don't forget to work on the PIE for the new stock stereo in the 2005 SuperDuty pickups as they don't have a aux input plug like the 99-2004's did.

How do you get around that one? Question

PIE TECH,
Yes I got your reply. Thanks.

Just to let everyone know, I asked if the FRD03-AUX would work (controlled through the CD/AUX button) if the Sirius option (controlled through the SAT button) was installed. Yes, to be able to use both XM and Sirius.

PIE TECH's response was in theory it should work but they haven't proved it.

The Sirius dealer-installed harness is an "inline" plug just like the FRD03-AUX, so behind the headunit the harness would be a mess.

Again, this is for the 2004/2005 Ford 6-disc Sat-ready HU that has a CD/AUX button in the top left corner of the HU and a SAT button next to the AM/FM button.

FRD03-AUX and Mach 460 Stereo system

Hey guys, I've been reading the posts about the FRD03-AUX and the Ford factory head units with internal 6 disk changer. Does this cable work with the Mach 460 head unit? It's Ford part number 3R3T-18C815-TB.

I bought this cable and tried it. No luck. The cables fit. (24 pin and 16 pin) The head unit worked fine for radio & CD. Tried the CD/AUX button with no CD. I get the "NO CD" message in the head unit display. I tried the SAT button for grins and giggles. "NO SAT" is the message I get.

I even tried just the 16 pin only. Same messages, all else works fine. I should have tried just the 24 pin (inline) only, but by that time I was bummed out by the whole ordeal. Maybe I'll try that before I mail the cable back.

So far, every post I've read are saying that there isn't a cable availible for this head unit yet. I have read that Blitzsafe is working on one, but haven't seen a release date yet.

The aux cables don't work with the SAT radios. There now is an XMDirect kit for these radios. Go to MYradiostore.com
